PEORIA, Ill. - Saint Louis players won a doubles flight championship and tied for a singles flight title at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Classic, hosted by Bradley University Sept. 23-25.

Drew Feder and Vuk Poledica posted a 4-0 record to capture the Flight 1 doubles crown, while Victor Marcial tied for first place in Flight 8 singles with a 3-1 mark. Bobby Kidera (Flight 1), Feder (Flight 5), Patrick Kella (Flight 7) and Dave Welkener (Flight 8) each posted a 2-2 singles ledger. The doubles teams of Joe Flanagan/Yehia El Sallaly and Kella/Kidera finished 2-2 in Flights 2 and 3, respectively.

Feder and Poledica, who improved to 7-0 on the season, registered victories of 8-1 over Thomas Gans and Patrick O'Neill (IUPUI), 8-6 over Erik Finkenbrink and Michael Tenzer (Green Bay), 8-2 over Gabriel Townes and Hamish Weerasinghe (Bradley), and 8-5 over Justin Pyle and Chris Baron (South Dakota State).

Marcial achieved all three of his victories in similar fashion, losing the first set decisively before recovering to edge his opponent in the second set and super-tiebreaker. He topped O'Neill 0-6, 7-5, 10-7; Kevin Keiner (Bradley) 2-6, 6-4, 10-8; and Taylor Tunis (IUPUI) 2-6, 7-5, 10-7. Marcial fell to flight co-winner Michael Davis (Bradley) 6-3, 6-1 in his final match.

"This was the most demanding tournament we'll play this year," head coach Jonathan Zych said. "It was a good test to see where we are physically and mentally. The other four teams there were deep from one through nine, and I believe our team is the best it's been one through nine, so I feel good about that.

"Drew and Vuk winning their doubles flight was our biggest highlight, and I'm pleased about our overall doubles record (8-7)," Zych said. "I also was impressed with Pat Kella's finish. He's in the best shape of anyone on our team, and he finished the tournament the strongest. Overall, this tournament was good preparation for a successful year."

The Billikens are back in action Thursday, Oct. 6, hosting Lewis at Dwight Davis Tennis Center. The match begins at 2:30 p.m.
