ST. LOUIS - Jessica Buschjost tallied two hits in each game, but Southern Illinois swept a doubleheader from Saint Louis, 4-2 and 9-1 (five innings), Wednesday afternoon at the Billiken Sports Center.

Buschjost was 2-for-4 in game one and 2-for-3 in the nightcap to boost her team-leading batting average to .331. She also stole a base in each game to push her season total to a team-high 27 (29 attempts), a mark that leads the Atlantic 10 Conference.

A big first inning powered Southern Illinois (24-11) in both games. The Salukis plated four runs in the opening frame of game one and pushed across five markers in the first inning of game two.

In the opener, Erin Harcar blasted her team-leading fourth home run of the season in the bottom of the first. The Billikens (17-21) added a run in the sixth as Laura Bohning led off with an infield single, advanced to third on singles by Alyson Brand and Kelsey Biggs and scored on Lindsay Friedman's fielder's choice.

However, SLU left the bases loaded in that inning and stranded two more runners in the seventh.

Hannah Huebbe (10-8) suffered the loss. Julian Austin tossed 6 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, yielding just two hits and two walks while striking out five. Rachel Faletto also had a hit for the Bills.

In the nightcap, SIU added to its 5-0 first-inning lead with a run in the second and three in the fourth.

Saint Louis registered its only run in the fifth. Buschjost had a one-out infield single, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Harcar's groundout.

Faletto doubled and Bohning singled for the Billikens.

Kelcie Matesa (4-7) took the loss.

Saint Louis returns to Atlantic 10 action Friday with a single game at Fordham. Game time is 2 p.m. (CT).
