LINCOLN, Neb. - Junior defensive specialist Grace Bonoma (Chicago, Ill./St. Ignatius) led all players with 13 digs in Saint Louis' 25-19, 25-20, 25-17 loss to Notre Dame Saturday afternoon at Nebraska's Husker Classic.

Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Baumet (Brownsburg, Ind./Brownsburg) led the Billikens (0-2) with seven kills. Baumet's four blocks tied two teammates - senior middle blocker Carly Marcum (Belleville, Ill./Althoff) and freshman middle blocker Megan Gilbert (Tripoli, Iowa/Tripoli) - for match-high honors, as Saint Louis out-blocked Notre Dame (1-1) 8-5.

Freshman outside hitter Lindsey Dinkelacker (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mother of Mercy) posted nine digs, while senior setter Cassie Clarke (Fayetteville, Ark./Fayetteville) contributed 21 assists and five kills (5-0-8, .625).

The Bills led by two points on four occasions early in the first set before Notre Dame pulled even at 5-5, the first of five ties in the opening stanza. The Fighting Irish scored three straight points for an 11-8 lead, only to see the Billikens answer with their own 3-0 spurt for an 11-11 deadlock.

After Notre Dame tallied five of the next seven points for a 16-13 advantage, two consecutive Clarke kills gave SLU a chance to knot the score again. But the Irish registered five straight points to take command.

Notre Dame led all the way in set two, although Saint Louis used an 11-6 run to turn a 12-6 deficit into an 18-17 Irish edge. Notre Dame then notched four straight and seven of the next 10 points to take a 2-0 match lead.

Following three early ties in the third set, Notre Dame gradually pulled away. Still, the Billikens were within striking distance trailing 15-11, but a 5-0 flurry put the Irish in control.

The Bills play their home opener Monday, Aug. 27, against Santa Clara. Match time at Chaifetz Pavilion is 7:30 p.m.
