ST. LOUIS - Aleksandra Niemiec and Carly Marcum tied for team-high honors with seven kills apiece, and Grace Bonoma tallied 14 digs in Saint Louis' 25-20, 25-23, 25-17 Atlantic 10 Conference loss to Xavier Saturday night at Chaifetz Pavilion.

Xavier improved to 15-9 overall and 7-2 in the A-10 with the victory, while SLU fell to 7-16, 2-7.

Niemiec tied her season-high kill total, hit .278 (7-2-18) and added a season-high 10 digs. Anna Church chipped in six kills and eight digs, and Marcum had three blocks.

Although Xavier led for most of the opening set, Saint Louis remained within striking distance. But a 3-0 mini run put the Musketeers on top 21-15, and the Billikens drew no closer than four points the rest of the way.

After SLU established a 13-10 advantage in set two, Xavier grabbed an 18-14 lead with an 8-1 spurt. The Billikens responded with a 5-1 flurry to knot the score at 19, and four more ties ensued before the Musketeers registered the final two points for the win.

In set three, Xavier sprinted to a 5-0 lead and maintained control en route to the match victory.

The Billikens step out of conference play with a match at Eastern Illinois Tuesday, Oct. 23. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
