Billikens Sweep Fordham in the Bronx

BRONX, N.Y. - The freshman duo of Megan Gilbert (10 kills on 18 attacks, .500 percentage) and Anna Church (game-high 11 kills) powered the Billikens to a three-game sweep of Fordham in the Bronx. Saint Louis moves to 8-17 overall with a 3-8 mark in the Atlantic 10. The Bills are now 11-1 all time against the Rams.

In the first set, the Billikens spread the offense around, with six different players recording a kill. They also stifled the Fordham attack, forcing the Rams into 10 errors with a team hitting percentage of .000. Saint Louis took the first frame 25-18.

Senior Cassie Clarke helped SLU get an early lead in the second set. She served the Bills to a 4-0 run, assisting on every kill in the run, to give her team a 2-5 quick lead. After that, Saint Louis never lost the lead, winning the set 25-20. Church was a force in the second game, slamming home seven kills on 13 attacks (.462 hitting percentage). As a team, the Billikens recorded a .375 hitting percentage in the set.

Junior Erin Klostermann was brought in the game for the first time in the third set. She entered with a narrow 13-12 lead, but led the Billikens on a 5-0 run to extend the score to 18-12. Saint Louis carried that momentum to a 25-17 win and sealed a sweep of the Rams. The Billiken defense played well all night, and held the Ram offense to a .057 hitting percentage in the final set.

For the three sets, the Rams managed to hit .065. It is the lowest opponent hitting percentage for the season and the second time this year that the Billikens have held their opponent to a sub-.100 hitting percentage. The other occurance was against South Alabama on Sept. 1 (.092).

Saint Louis will return home next weekend to wrap up the home slate. The Billikens will take on Temple in the Chaifetz Pavilion on Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. The Bills will then host La Salle on Nov. 3 at 5:30 p.m. The La Salle contest will be Senior Night. The Billiken Athletic staff will host a pregame ceremony honoring the careers of the senior class.
