No. 20 Billikens Bounce Back, Oust George Washington 5-0
ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis recorded a season-high five goals Sunday in a 5-0 Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer victory over George Washington at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
The win lifts the Billikens to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the A-10 with one game remaining in the regular season. George Washington dips to 5-12 and 2-6 in the league.
Five different players accounted for the Billikens' five tallies. Jon Roeckle, Nick Maglasang and Robbie Kristo scored in the first half. Adnan Gabeljic and Jonathan Svigos scored in the second half. Marco Heskamp recorded two assists, while Gabeljic and Kristo each added an assist for three-point days.
Roeckle opened the scoring in the 11th minute on a corner kick. David Graydon sent the ball to Heskamp, who found Roeckle outside the top of the box. Roeckle sent a drive through traffic, and it found the back of the net in the bottom right corner for the game's first score. It was Roeckle's third goal of the season.
Maglasang made it 2-0 in the 17th minute on a nice buildup on the right side. Kristo gave it to Heskamp, who fed Maglasang. His shot snuck just inside the near post for Maglasang's second goal of the year, making it 2-0 Billikens.
Kristo tallied the Billikens' third goal of the opening half, and his team-leading eighth of the season, on a strong individual effort. Kristo took possession on a turnover in the center circle, and out-raced a GW defender and fired past the GW keeper, making it 3-0.
That remained the score in the 82nd minute when Gabeljic tallied his fifth of the season. Gabeljic, who earlier in the match hit one off the post, raced up the left flank on a pass from Christian Briggs. Gabeljic shot toward the far post, and his shot found the side netting to make it 4-0.
Jonathan Svigos scored his first career goal after a run by Gabeljic in the 89th minute. Gabeljic sent one in from the right side, and Svigos' touch eluded the Colonial keeper for the 5-0 final.
The Billikens close out the regular season next Sunday against Butler on Senior Day. Game time at Hermann Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m.
