BILLIKENS SLATED FOR FIVE GAMES AT MURRAY STATE TOURNEY

•Riding a seven-game winning streak, the Saint Louis softball team (10-4) has five games on the docket at Murray State’s Racer Classic Thursday through Sunday, March 9-12.

•The Billikens take on Murray State (6 p.m.) on Thursday; Austin Peay (12:30 p.m.) and Murray State (5:30 p.m.) on Friday; Northern Illinois (12:30 p.m.) on Saturday; and Austin Peay (11 a.m.) on Sunday.

•The Billiken offense averages 6.4 runs and carries a .306 batting average and a .540 slugging percentage. SLU clubbed 15 home runs, 29 doubles and eight triples in its first 14 games.

•The pitching staff owns a 2.72 ERA and is allowing opponents a .219 batting average.

Allie Macfarlane, who was named Most Valuable Player of last weekend’s We Back Pat Tournament, leads the Billikens in batting average (.457), on-base percentage (.490), RBIs (17), hits (21) and doubles (five). Macfarlane has three home runs.

Alyssa Tarquinio has a .432 batting mark, two home runs and 10 RBIs.

Mackenzie Peter leads Saint Louis in home runs (four) and slugging percentage (.787) while batting .404 and driving in 14 runs.

Alex Nickel has team highs of four triples and 15 runs in addition to 10 RBIs.

Maddie Baalman leads the pitching staff with four wins, followed by Kaylea Chappelle and Kallen Loveless with three apiece. Chappelle’s 1.38 ERA is the team’s best.

BILLIKENS IN THE NATIONAL STATISTICS

•Through games of March 6, Saint Louis ranks among the top 50 teams in the nation in triples (third, 0.57/game), doubles (third, 2.07/game), slugging percentage (14th, .540), runs (25th, 6.43/game) and home runs (25th, 1.07/game).

Alex Nickel ranks fourth in triples (0.29/game) and 44th in runs (1.07/game); Allie Macfarlane is 37th in RBIs (1.21/game); and Mackenzie Peter is 42nd in triples (0.14/game).

•Among NCAA Division I active career leaders, Nickel ranks eighth in walks (109) and 22nd in runs (137), while Peter is tied for 13th in doubles (43).

MOVING UP THE CAREER CHARTS

Alex Nickel became Saint Louis’ career assists leader earlier this season, and she now has 451 assists. Nickel also owns the Billikens’ career records for walks (109) and sacrifice flies (seven).

•Nickel has a chance to set several other SLU career marks. She is tied for second with 23 home runs (record is 29), third with 137 runs (150) and 272 total bases (290), fourth with 168 hits (225) and fifth with 96 RBIs (123).

•Nickel is tied for ninth with 27 doubles.

Mackenzie Peter holds the SLU career doubles record (43) and is in contention for two other school marks. Peter is fourth with 22 home runs (29) and fifth with 260 total bases (290).

•Other SLU top-10 rankings for Peter are fifth in runs (100), sixth in walks (68), eighth in RBIs (85) and tied for ninth in triples (five).

Allie Macfarlane ranks fourth with 101 RBIs, challenging the school record of 123. Macfarlane is tied for fifth with 18 home runs.

Alyssa Tarquinio ranks fourth with 901 putouts and fifth with 968 chances.

Maddie Baalman is 10th with 19 wins.

RACER CLASSIC TOURNAMENT OPPONENTS

Murray State – The Racers are 15-4 … Murray State won Southern Illinois’ Coach B Classic last weekend, claiming three of its four victories by a one-run margin … the Racers defeated Atlantic 10 Conference member Dayton 5-2 in February … Murray State averages 6.7 runs, has hit 19 home runs in 19 games and carries a .318 batting average … went 24-31 overall, 12-14 (eighth place) in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2016.

Austin Peay – The Billikens went 1-1 vs. the Governors at Kennesaw State’s Phyllis Rafter Memorial Tournament in February (won 14-5, lost 5-4) … Austin Peay has a 7-8 record … the Governors hit 17 home runs in their first 15 games … went 9-38 overall and 5-22 (11th) in the Ohio Valley Conference in 2016.

Northern Illinois – The Huskies of the Mid-American Conference come in with an 8-6 record … NIU’s pitching staff boasts a 1.73 ERA … the Huskies were 35-20 overall and 13-10 in the MAC last year, finishing first in the league’s West Division.
