The Saint Louis University Billiken Hall of Fame is the biennial premier event of the department of athletics. It has been established to honor the members of past athletic teams who have excelled in intercollegiate athletics at the University, or gained national recognition in athletics following graduation or years of eligibility. In addition, this Hall of Fame will provide special recognition opportunities for non-athletes who have contributed significantly to the success of the Saint Louis University athletics program.
Recognition ceremonies for inductees will be held at a Hall of Fame Banquet in early 2021. The date of the event is established after receiving confirmation of our sport schedules in late summer.
Anyone may submit a nomination to the Hall of Fame. Once nominated, a person remains an active candidate until selected or for a period of up to five years from the initial nomination. To nominate an individual for the Billiken Hall of Fame via an online form (preferred method), click here.
The categories are as follows:
The inductees will be selected by the Executive Committee of the Billiken Club from four categories:
1. Billiken Great: Student-athletes who have brought recognition and prominence to the University and themselves through outstanding athletic achievements as an undergraduate. Former student-athletes are eligible for induction five years after his/her athletic eligibility has expired.
2. Distinguished Alum: Student-athletes during their undergraduate days who have made major contributions to the University athletic program through personal time, effort and interest and through many years of service and/or have distinguished themselves as exceptional in their chosen field or endeavor. Former student-athletes are eligible for induction five years after his/her athletic eligibility has expired.
3. Bauman Sportsmanship Award: Individuals, not necessarily former student-athletes or alums, who have made outstanding contributions to Billiken Athletics through the demonstration of the highest principles of integrity, honesty and fair play without consideration for self gain. (Emphasis at nomination should be placed on continued service.) Coaches and administrators must have served at least five years and have had five years elapse since their final date of employment.
4. The Bob Burnes Award: Former Billiken Athletic teams that have brought recognition and prominence to the University and themselves by athletic accomplishment.
Within each category, there are two subcategories:
A. Pioneer: The Pioneer era includes any graduating class of at least 30 years earlier than the year of the induction ceremony.
B. Contemporary: The Contemporary era includes the 30 most recent graduating classes.
