ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University head men's basketball coach Brad Soderberg today announced that sophomore guard Jason Edwin (Warsaw, Ill. / Warsaw) has left the Billikens' program for academic reasons
"Jason and I believe it is in his best interests to spend a year at a junior college in the hope of getting his academics in order," Soderberg said. "We certainly have an interest in Jason returning to our program if his academic status permits.
"This is certainly a setback for our team next year, but one that we can overcome," Soderberg continued. "My biggest concern is to do what's best for Jason, so that he may ultimately earn his bachelor's degree from Saint Louis University."
Edwin was the Billikens' second leading scorer during the 2001-02 season when he averaged 9.2 points per game while starting 18 of 31 games. In his two-year career, he averaged 7.2 ppg in 53 games including 29 starting assignments.
"This has been a learning experience for me, so I plan on going to junior college and take my academics much more seriously," Edwin said. "I am disappointed that I've let my teammates down, but I expect to return for the 2003-04 season."
Saint Louis currently has 11 scholarship players on its roster for the 2002-03 season.
