ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis University director of athletics Chris May has announced that head women's soccer coach Tim Champion will not return for the 2012 season.

"We are grateful for Tim's leadership of our women's soccer program, and we appreciate the Billikens' accomplishments during his tenure," May said. "We wish Tim the best in his future endeavors."

Champion has been the only head coach in SLU women's soccer history, leading the program since its inaugural campaign in 1996. During his 16 seasons at the helm, the Billikens compiled a 176-107-39 overall record and a 94-48-17 conference ledger. However, the Billikens were 17-28-13 the last three seasons and failed to qualify for the Atlantic 10 Conference Tournament the last two.

A national search for a successor will begin immediately.
