In his first season with the Billikens, Nelson established himself as one of the team's top offensive weapons...started all 59 games, hitting .314 with a .409 on-base percentage and a .429 slugging percentage...led the team with 14 doubles...had a season-best 27-game on-base streak. Also had a team-best nine-game hitting streak...had a great game against MVC power Southern Illinois. He went a perfect four-for-four from the plate with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored...

Helped Serra win the league championship his junior and senior seasons and led the team to the CCS sectional championship his final year...As a senior, he was selected to play for the Northern California Braves Scout Team, a prestigious team filled with numerous MLB draft prospects.

Hit .400 (15th in the state) and tied for sixth in the state with a conference-best six home runs...drove in 30 runs and drew 27 walks (tied for 10th in the state), slugged .608 (14th in the state) and posted a .513 on-base percentage (ninth in the state)... Unanimous first-team All-League selection, earned Northern California All-America honors and was voted third-team Pacific Association Division All-America...participated in the California Rawlings Cup and earned a spot on the All-Tournament team.
