Billikens Top Wash. U. in Spring Soccer Action
ST. LOUIS - Robbie Kristo, William Hidalgo and Alex Sweetin all scored to lift Saint Louis to a 3-1 victory over Washington University Friday night in a spring exhibition match at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
"It was a great game for us, everyone chipped in and contributed in their own way," SLU head coach Mike McGinty said. "I was very happy especially with guys like Joda Holloway, who came in and contributed at the end. Also, Jordan Gladestone, who hasn't played all spring, played really well. It was positive in a number of respects, and now we will get ready for Bradley next week."
Kristo opened the scoring 15 minutes into the contest when he connected on a corner kick. Jon Roeckle sent the ball in to the far post, and Christian Briggs headed it to the center of the box. Kristo was there to put it home and give the Bills a 1-0 lead.
Wash. U., however, equalized just a minute later when it buried a PK. The score remained 1-1 at the half.
In the second session, the Bills went on top on a scoring play started by Adnan Gabeljic, who kept possession working his way up the right flank. He fed Hidalgo who scored for the eventual game winner.
Sweetin added an insurance marker with less than five minutes remaining. He corralled a long ball from Roeckle and raced into the box on the left side. He turned toward the goal near the end-line and fired to the opposite side netting for the final 3-1 margin.
The Billikens return to action next Saturday when they host Bradley at Hermann Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
