DAYTON, Ohio - Defending Atlantic 10 Conference champion and 2012 preseason favorite Dayton defeated Saint Louis 25-14, 25-18, 25-11 Saturday night at the Frericks Center.

SLU fell to 5-10 overall and 0-2 in the A-10. Dayton, ranked 22nd nationally by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, improved to 10-4, 2-0.

Megan Gilbert led the Billiken attack with eight kills, while Carly Marcum collected six kills. Anna Church tallied a match-high 11 digs, and Grace Bonoma added eight digs.

Dayton, which hit .418 for the match, broke open a close contest in the first set with a 6-0 spurt. The run gave the Flyers a 12-5 lead en route to the set victory.

Saint Louis grabbed a 3-1 edge in set two and, following eight ties, owned a 16-15 advantage. But a 5-0 flurry gave Dayton the upper hand, and the Flyers went on to take a 2-0 match lead.

Leading 5-3 in set three, Dayton assembled a 7-1 run to build a 12-4 cushion on its way to clinching the match.

Saint Louis hosts Duquesne Friday, Sept. 28. Match time for the A-10 contest at Chaifetz Pavilion is 7 p.m.
