LAST TIME OUT - The Billikens trailed just 32-29 at halftime last Friday at Mizzou Arena, but a 23-5 Missouri run put the Tigers in command en route to a 67-51 win. Courtney Webb scored 17 points to lead Saint Louis, while Lorreal Jones added 12 points and a game-high-tying eight rebounds (game-high-tying four offensive). Mallory Eggert gathered eight rebounds and had a game-high-tying three steals, and Jacy Bradley contributed nine points, five rebounds and four assists. The Billikens shot 85 percent (17-of-20) from the foul line and earned a 37-30 advantage on the boards.
ABOUT THE BILLIKENS - Saint Louis returns four starters and seven additional players from last year's 11-20 team that tied for 10th (4-10) in the Atlantic 10 Conference. However, returning guards Jamesia Price, Morgan Johnson and Abby Willis are sidelined by injuries. Redshirt senior guard Courtney Webb is SLU's top returning scorer after averaging a team-high 11.4 points last season, her first as a Billiken. Redshirt sophomore guard Desirae Ball averaged 9.2 points in her first campaign after missing the 2010-11 season with an injury, while senior guard Jacy Bradley tossed in 8.6 ppg before missing the last 14 games due to injury. Junior forward Lorreal Jones (8.3 ppg) and senior center Mallory Eggert (7.6 ppg) round out last year's top five scorers. The Bills return their top two rebounders from a year ago in Jones (7.8 rpg) and Eggert (6.8 rpg). Webb led the way with 48 3-pointers.
SCOUTING UMKC - The Kangaroos return three starters and three additional letter winners from last year's 22-12 team that finished third in the Summit League (11-7) and was edged 81-79 at Missouri State in the first round of the WNIT. Among the returnees are junior forward Kim Nezianya, who averaged 11.1 points and a team-high 7.7 rebounds last season, and sophomore guard Eilise O'Connor, who tossed in 10.4 points per game while posting a team-high 4.7 assists average. Sophomore center Ashli Hill (7.8 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 69 blocks) also is back. UMKC followed a season-opening 68-51 loss to Missouri Western with a 69-64 victory over Southeast Missouri State. Nezianya, who registered 23 points and 11 rebounds against SEMO, leads the Kangaroos in scoring (20.0 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg). O'Connor and Hill average 11.5 points apiece, and Hill already has nine blocks. Marsha Frese is in her first season as a collegiate head coach.
