ST. LOUIS - The Saint Louis University women's tennis team opens its spring campaign Saturday, Jan. 19, against Missouri at St. Clair Tennis Club in O'Fallon, Ill. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.

While two-time first-team All-Conference selection Jenny Nalepa has graduated, the Billikens return a solid corps of five players from last year's squad that posted a 12-10 record.

SLU is led by Mia Elmore, the team's lone senior. Elmore topped the Bills in doubles victories (21-10) and turned in a 17-15 singles record in 2011-12.

Junior Stephanie Hollis is back after earning a second-team All-Conference nod last season. Hollis posted a 19-11 singles record and a 17-14 doubles mark a year ago.

Sophomore Brooke Urzendowski enjoyed a strong rookie season last year. Urzendowski's 21 singles wins (21-11) led the team, and she added 15 doubles victories.

Sophomore Maria Toro also made a solid contribution in her Billiken debut campaign. Toro was 19-11 in singles, including a team-best 13-7 in dual matches at No. 5, and tossed in 15 doubles wins.

Playing her first season at Saint Louis after transferring from Dayton, junior Madeline Jolly was named the 2011-12 team's Most Improved Player. Jolly contributed 14 singles wins and 12 doubles victories.

Freshmen Madison Cook and Natalia Yacaman joined the team this year. Cook was a team-best 8-3 in singles and went 3-2 in doubles in fall competition, while Yacaman registered marks of 3-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles.

"Obviously it's great to have a very solid SEC team on our schedule, especially at home," head coach Jon Zych said. "Our players are excited to have an immediate test to start the spring season. It will be a tough challenge, and I think looking forward to playing Missouri right away helped our team work hard and get ready during the break. The match will give us an opportunity to see where we are."
