HAMMOND, La. - Host team Southeastern Louisiana scored a run in the first inning and an insurance tally in the sixth to defeat Saint Louis 2-0 Saturday afternoon at the Jimmy John's Lion Classic 1.

The Billikens slipped to 2-2, while Southeastern improved to 2-1.

Jessica Buschjost, Kelsey Biggs and Breanna Lockette posted a hit and a walk apiece for Saint Louis. Biggs recorded her first double of the season. Madeline Brungardt, Elizabeth Everingham and Lindsay Friedman each picked up a single.

Starting pitcher Brianna Lore (1-1) enjoyed a solid outing despite absorbing the loss. Lore tossed four innings and allowed one run, four hits and no walks while striking out three.

Saint Louis created several scoring chances, including loading the bases in the fifth and sixth innings. A runner was thrown out at the plate trying to score on a wild pitch in the fifth, and another was lost in a rundown for the third out in the sixth. SLU also stranded two in the first and seventh frames.

SLU concludes play in the Jimmy John's Lion Classic 1 Sunday at 10 a.m. against Louisiana Tech.
