ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis head swimming and diving coach Jim Halliburton has released the Billikens’ 2013-14 competition schedule. The slate features five home meets, the Mizzou Invitational and the Atlantic 10 Championship at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

The season will open with the intrasquad meet on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 8 a.m. at the Simon Recreation Center Pool.

The following weekend, the Billikens head across town to Washington University for a dual against the Bears on Sept. 27 at 5:30 p.m. SLU has opened the season against Washington in each of the past two seasons, defeating the Bears each time. On Sept. 29, the women’s team will take part in the Butler Invitational in Fishers, Ind.

The Bills head to Macomb, Ill., on Oct. 5 for a dual meet against Western Illinois. The Billikens swam against the Leathernecks three times last season, topping WIU in each contest.

Saint Louis hosts its first home meet of the season on Oct. 18 at 5:30 p.m. against Eastern Illinois. The Billikens traveled to Charleston to face the Panthers last season, a dual in which both SLU teams emerged victorious.

On Oct. 26, the men’s squad will head to Truman State for a double-dual against TSU and William Jewell. Saint Louis has not swum against Truman State since the 1991-92 season, but the men lead the all-time series 3-2. The Billikens are 2-0 all-time against William Jewell.

The Bills will compete in the Lindenwood Invitational on Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. Saint Louis will take on host Lindenwood and Missouri S&T at the St. Peter’s Rec Plex. Last season, the women’s squad competed well at the Invitational, picking up wins over William Jewell and Lindenwood.

On the weekend of Nov. 8, the Billiken women’s team will host a double meet against Arkansas-Little Rock and Maryville.  The three teams will compete on Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. and again on Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. Both meets will take place at the Simon Rec Center.

The Billikens will compete in the Missouri Tiger Invitational on Nov. 21-23. This will be the Bills’ first opportunity to compete with championship scoring.

Over the winter, Billiken swimmers who meet Senior National qualifying times will head to the USA Swimming Winter Nationals. Several swimmers are expected to reach the cut lines and receive invites.

After returning from winter training, SLU heads to Indianapolis for a double-dual with IUPUI and Western Illinois on Jan. 11. The Billikens have fared well against IUPUI historically, with the men holding a 20-5 record against the Jaguars, including a current 14-meet win streak. The women are 19-6 against IUPUI.

Saint Louis meets William Jewell and Bellarmine on Jan. 18 in Liberty, Mo. It is the first meeting between SLU and Bellarmine.

The Billikens will wrap up their home slate with duals against Evansville (Jan. 24 at 5:30 p.m.) and Western Illinois (Jan. 25 at 1 p.m.). This will be the third and final meeting between the Bills and Leathernecks this season. It also will be Senior Day as Saint Louis, and coach Halliburton will recognize the program’s senior class.

To wrap up the regular season, SLU will head to Charleston, Ill., for a meeting with Eastern Illinois on Jan. 31. The diving schedule will end the following day, Feb. 1, with a divers-only meet at Principia College in Elsah, Ill.

The 2013-14 Atlantic 10 Championship will be held at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio on Feb. 19-22. Last season, numerous Billiken swimmers set top times, and Stephen Hansen won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.34. He is only the second male swimmer in SLU history to win an individual gold at the A-10 Championship.
