ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis University men’s and women’s tennis teams volunteered at the 2013 United States Tennis Association U.S. Open Wheelchair Championships, recently held at Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park.

Billiken tennis student-athletes served as ball persons and assisted in general support of the event. This marked the second consecutive year SLU tennis has assisted with the tournament.

“Working at the U.S. Open Wheelchair Championships was an inspiring and enjoyable experience for our student-athletes,” SLU head coach Jon Zych said. “We’ve been fortunate to have the tournament in St. Louis. It’s a privilege to help in any way we can at an event that means a great deal to so many people.”

The USTA U.S. Open Wheelchair Championships is a professional tournament also open to recreational players. It is one of three tournaments, joining events in Japan and Great Britain, to hold International Tennis Federation Super Series sanctioning on the NEC International Wheelchair Tennis Tour.
