ST. LOUIS - The Billikens defeated the visiting George Washington Colonials 10-4 at the Billiken Sports Center Friday night. The win moves SLU to 15-9 overall and 4-0 in the Atlantic 10. Junior RHP James Norwood (4-0) picked up the win on the mound.
In the contest, the Billiken lineup erupted for 16 hits, the most hits Saint Louis has had since the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship against Charlotte (16). The last time the Bills met the Colonials was in the 2013 A-10 Tournament, and SLU had 20 hits in the contest.
The Billiken hitters collected three hits against GW: Alec Solé went 3-4 with a run scored; Mike Vigliarolo was 3-5 with a double, a homer, three runs and an RBI; and Braxton Martinez was 3-4 with two runs and two RBIs.
Jake Henson was 2-4 with a home run and a game-high three RBIs. In addition to his prowess at the plate, Henson was strong behind the dish, gunning out two baserunners at second.
The Billiken pitchers also had good games. Norwood got the start and earned his fourth win of the season. He threw six innings, striking out five and walking two. Southpaws Damian Rivera and Sam Nafziger threw in relief, shutting down the Colonial lineup. Rivera threw one inning, allowing one hit and striking out two. Nafziger wrapped up the game, allowing two hits in two innings and striking out three.
The Billikens and Colonials will meet again tomorrow, March 29 at 2 p.m. at the Billiken Sports Center. Junior RHP Nick Bates will get the start for Saint Louis.
