ST. LOUIS - The current Saint Louis volleyball team topped a talented alumni squad 3-1 in the Megan Boken Alumni Match. The match was the featured event in the Megan Boken Alumni Weekend, sandwiched between a free community clinic in the morning and a fundraiser dinner in the evening. Sophomore outside hitter Danielle Rygelski led the match with 19 kills.
In the morning session, the Saint Louis coaching staff, student-athletes and alumni hosted a free community clinic. Youth from across the St. Louis area participated in the clinic, learning the fundamentals of the game.
Following the clinic, the Billikens and alumni squared off in the Alumni match. In the match, the current team topped the alumni, 3-1. Rygelski led the squad in kills, and sophomore middle blocker Taylor Paulson notched 10 kills with a match-high .467 attack percentage. Rygelski also tallied 10 digs to complete the double-double. She also had a team-high five aces.
That evening, Billiken volleyball hosted a preseason kickoff fundraiser. Over $11,000 was raised to benefit Saint Louis volleyball.
The first match of the season is slated for Friday, Aug. 29, against Memphis at 2 p.m. in Chaifetz Arena as part of the Marcia E. Hamilton Classic.
