ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis junior midfielder Filip Pavisic scored in the 86th minute to vault the Billikens to a 1-0 victory against Tulsa Friday night at Hermann Stadium. It was the season opener for both teams.
SLU Goals – Pavisic (Manning, Graydon), 85:21.
Pavisic’s goal, the first of his career, came after the Billikens had threatened multiple times late in the match. Graydon started the scoring play with a corner kick. It went to Manning, who attempted a leaping header. Pavisic ended up pouncing on it and buried a shot into the right side for the game’s only goal.
Saint Louis outshot the Golden Hurricane 14-9 and managed a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks. Otte made one save for the clean sheet, and the SLU defense was sharp on multiple occasions, thwarting several dangerous chances by Tulsa.
Kristo fired a team-high four shots for the Billikens, while Pavisic had three.
The Billikens return to action Sunday night when they face Virginia Tech in a 7 p.m. kickoff at Hermann Stadium. The Hokies defeated SIUE tonight 1-0 in overtime.
