ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis senior forward Robert Kristo scored twice to lead the Billikens to a 3-1 victory against Virginia Tech Sunday night at Hermann Stadium.

The Billikens improve to 2-0 on the season, while Virginia Tech falls to 1-1. Kristo, a Hermann Trophy candidate, now has 29 career goals. It was the fifth multi-goal game of his career.

“It was a tough game, Virginia Tech is a good and physical team,” SLU head coach Mike McGinty said. “I’m impressed with our effort – physically – for the entire 90 minutes. We made it easier on ourselves by getting those three goals in the first half, but we competed until the very end.”

SLU Starters – GK: Sascha Otte. D: Julian Gieseke, Max Karcher, Anthony Manning. MF: David Graydon, Marco Heskamp, Josh Kohring, Raymond Lee. F: Kingsley Bryce, William Hidalgo, Robert Kristo.

SLU Subs – Filip Pavisic (second half), Francisco Vizcaino (second half), Tyler David (second half).

SLU Goals – Kristo (Manning), 3:10; Kristo (Graydon), 15:57; Hidalgo (penalty kick), 29:48.

Senior forward Robert Kristo got it started for the Billikens in the fourth minute. Sophomore defender Max Karcher made a nifty play to gain possession in the Billikens’ end, then fed it to Lee. With Kristo streaking up the middle of the field, Lee found him with pretty lofted pass. Kristo finished into the left side of the goal for his first of the season.

It was Kristo again in the 17th minute. Senior forward William Hidalgo drew a foul, and on the ensuing restart, junior midfielder David Graydon sent a perfectly flighted ball that Kristo headed inside the far post to make it 2-0.

The Billikens got their third goal of the first half on a PK. After senior forward Kingsley Bryce was brought down in the box, Hidalgo converted on the chance to make it 3-0.

Virginia Tech got one back in the 49th minute, but SLU held the Hokies off the rest of the way. Billiken keeper Sascha Otte made six saves.

Saint Louis returns to action Saturday, Sept. 6, for its first road game of the year when it travels to Memphis to take on the Tigers. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
