ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis freshman Manuel De Backer has been named the Atlantic 10 Conference men’s indoor track and field co-Rookie of the Week, the league office announced. It is the second time this season De Backer has been received a weekly honor from the A-10.

De Backer recorded a PR in the 5,000 meters at the Meyo Invitational at the University of Notre Dame, finishing in a time of 14:40.07. That time is the fastest amongst freshmen in the A-10 so far this season and the fourth-fastest overall.

De Backer, from Essen, Belgium, claimed A-10 Rookie of the Week honors Jan. 26 for his performance in the 5K at the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana University. During the cross country season, he was 25th overall and second amongst the Billikens at the A-10 Championship.

Saint Louis returns to action in two weeks at the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, to be held Feb. 20-21 at the University of Rhode Island.
