Ty Margenthaler is in his fourth season as a member of the Saint Louis University women's basketball coaching staff, and his second campaign as associate head coach.

Margenthaler serves as the program’s recruiting coordinator and works with SLU’s post players. He helped guide the Billikens to 57 wins and two Women’s National Invitation Tournament appearances during his first three seasons.

Prior to his arrival in St. Louis, Margenthaler was assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Samford during the 2015-16 season. He helped lead the Bulldogs to a 20-11 record.

This is Margenthaler’s second stint on head coach Lisa Stone’s staff. He served five seasons (2006-11) with Stone at Wisconsin, where he was in charge of post player development and was the Badgers’ recruiting coordinator.

“I’m very pleased to welcome Ty to Saint Louis University and the Billiken family,” Stone said upon Margenthaler's hiring. “He comes from a basketball family and is a highly respected and proven recruiter. Ty knows how I operate and will be a tremendous asset to our program as we continue to build our program.”

“I am extremely excited to join coach Stone and her staff at Saint Louis University,” Margenthaler said upon his appointment. “I’m looking forward to assisting her and the future development of her program. It’s going to be a pleasure to introduce potential student-athletes to the Billiken family.”

Prior to his year at Samford, Margenthaler spent four seasons as head coach at Southeast Missouri State. His teams held 34 opponents to fewer than 60 points and increased their offensive output by more than 10 points per game. The Redhawks also excelled academically, posting the nation’s fifth-best grade point average in 2012-13.

Wisconsin’s 95-68 record during Margenthaler’s tenure in Madison included a school-record 23 victories in 2006-07. The Badgers finished second in the WNIT that season in the first of five consecutive postseason appearances (four WNIT, one NCAA). UW tied for third place in the Big Ten Conference in Margenthaler’s final two years.

Margenthaler’s coaching experience also includes six seasons as an assistant at Bradley; one season as an assistant at his alma mater, SIUE; and two seasons as head coach at Roxana (Ill.) High School, where he led his team to conference and regional titles and garnered Alton Telegraph Coach of the Year honors.

After collecting All-State plaudits as a senior at Macomb (Ill.) High School and playing two years at Indian Hills (Iowa) Community College, Margenthaler spent the final two seasons of his career under the tutelage of his father, Jack, at SIUE. He averaged 16 points and started every game for the Cougars.

Margenthaler holds a bachelor’s degree in physical education/kinesiology from SIUE. He and his wife, Julie, are the parents of sons Brice and Nate.
