Brandon Bertsch, who has been a tennis instructor and coach for the past nine years, is in his second season as Saint Louis University’s assistant men’s tennis coach.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Bertsch began playing tennis at age seven. As a junior player, he competed in numerous tournaments throughout the Midwest. Bertsch played No. 1 singles all four years at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and was team captain his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.
Bertsch attended Utah State his freshman and sophomore years and made the Aggies’ tennis roster as a walk-on. He transferred to Ohio State, where he studied history and English.
A USPTA Level 2 certified professional, Bertsch has taught or coached at many different clubs and academies in Ohio, Utah and Missouri. He was the boys’ tennis coach at Skyline High School in Salt Lake City, Utah, for three seasons, leading the Eagles to a state runner-up spot and two district championships.Bertsch and his wife, Jackie, have a son, Grayson, and a daughter, Brighton.
