Former Coe College pitcher Arran Weeces is in her second season as an assistant coach with the Saint Louis University softball team. Weeces is pursuing a master’s degree in higher education at SLU.
“We are very excited to have Arran on our staff,” head coach Christy Connoyer said. “She is a bright and eager coach who has a passion for teaching and working with student-athletes to improve their game. Her background will also enhance our mental game and help raise the level of intensity and awareness of our pitchers in the circle.”
“I’m so grateful for this opportunity to work with Coach Connoyer, Coach Carmody and the rest of the staff at Saint Louis University,” Weeces said. “We’ve got a great group, and I’m excited to work with our pitchers and catchers.”
Despite being a May 2016 graduate of Coe, Weeces brought coaching experience to SLU. She served two years as assistant softball coach at Jefferson High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and has been a private pitching instructor since 2012.
A native of Solon, Iowa, Weeces made 70 appearances and 56 starts in the circle during her four-year career at Coe. She compiled a 36-17 record, a 2.27 earned run average, 13 shutouts and 386 strikeouts in 354.2 innings.
Weeces helped the Kohawks post a 36-10 record, capture the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season title and earn an NCAA Division III Championship berth in 2014. The previous year, Coe went 34-8, tied for the IIAC regular-season crown and qualified for the NCAA tournament.
Weeces earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology and had a minor in Spanish. She was a member of Coe’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
