MALIBU, Calif. – Senior Aspen Cervin of the Saint Louis University women’s tennis team won a singles consolation match in the 2016 Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Masters tournament this weekend.

After falling 6-1, 6-3 to No. 7 seed Meible Chi of Duke in the first round of the 32-player draw, Cervin posted a 6-0, 6-2 consolation victory over New Mexico State’s Rimpledeep Kaur. Cervin was eliminated in the consolation quarterfinals by Xavier’s Sydney Liggins, 6-3, 6-7, 6-0.

In mixed doubles, Cervin and Jeffrey Schorsch of Valparaiso dropped a 6-4 first-round decision to Pepperdine’s Luisa Stefani and Guilherme Hadlich.

The Oracle/ITA Masters is a national collegiate tournament featuring the top returning women’s and men’s players from all 31 NCAA Division I conferences that sponsor tennis, plus one wild-card selection for both women and men. The event is hosted by Pepperdine University and the Malibu Racquet Club.

Cervin enjoyed an outstanding 2015-16 season that culminated with her selection as the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Most Outstanding Performer and a third consecutive first-team All-Conference nod. She posted a 25-5 singles record (20-2 at No. 1 in dual meets, including 6-0 vs. A-10 opponents) and a 22-8 doubles mark.
