ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis senior outside hitter Danielle Rygelski has been named to the AVCA All-Midwest Region team. It is her second consecutive season on the team. Rygelski is the seventh Billiken to earn multiple All-Region accolades.
"Danielle had a fantastic year,” Saint Louis head volleyball coach Kent Miller said. “She exceeded our already very high expectations and led our team, particularly versus our best opponents and at the biggest moments, to great success. Not only did she lead the NCAA in a number of statistical categories, she carried an extraordinary load for our team. She was a six-rotation player, a significant back row attacker, primary passer and had a great year serving. Danielle finishes her career here as one of the best in Saint Louis University history."
Rygelski was one of the top hitters in the NCAA this season, breaking an NCAA record with 715 kills, most in the NCAA 25-point rally scoring era. Additionally, she is only the second player in that era to finish a season with more than 6.00 kills per set. Rygelski was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year and earned a record seven A-10 Player of the Week honors this season. She currently leads the NCAA in kills (715), kills per set (6.01) and points (808.0). Rygelski is third in the nation with 65 service aces.
Rygelski is now eligible for AVCA All-America honors. The 2016 AVCA All-America team will be announced on Wednesday, December 14.
