ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis baseball will host its annual First Pitch Dinner on January 27 at Lorenzini’s in Chaifetz Arena with guest speaker Randy Flores. Event runs from 6-9 p.m. and complementary parking will be provided in the Fred Weber VIP lot adjacent to Chaifetz Arena. Admission to the event is $100.
Flores is the Director of Scouting for the St. Louis Cardinals, a position he has held since 2015. In this capacity, he oversees all aspects of the scouting department, including the amateur draft.
“Hearing from a former major league player, who is now the head of scouting, is a unique experience for those who enjoy baseball or have ambitions to play at the next level,” Saint Louis head baseball coach Darin Hendrickson said. “Randy also played college baseball at the Division I level and will offer a unique perspective for our audience.”
Flores was part of the Cardinals’ 2006 World Series Championship team and spent eight seasons in the Majors. The left-hander played for St. Louis from 2004-2008, appearing in more than 200 games as a relief pitcher. Drafted by the New York Yankees in the 9th round of the 1997 amateur draft, Flores made his debut in 2002 with Texas and also saw big-league action with Colorado (2002, 2009-10) and Minnesota (2010). Collegiately, he played at USC, earning Pac-10 Player of the Year honors in 1995.
Saint Louis brings in 16 newcomers for the 2017 season. The Billiken schedule features several prominent teams including Michigan, Notre Dame and Oklahoma State. Saint Louis opens the 2017 season against Lafayette on Feb. 17 in San Antonio, Texas. The first SLU home game is on March 3 against Fairleigh Dickinson.
