ABOUT THE BILLIKENS
The Billikens are led by 2016 Atlantic 10 All-Conference performer Trent Leimkuehler, who leads all returners with 10 home runs last season. Also returning is catcher James Morisano, who was recently tabbed as one of the top 10 prospects in the Atlantic 10 by Perfect Game. On the mound for SLU will be sophomores RHP Miller Hogan and RHP Jackson Wark as well as southpaw senior Devin Mahoney. Hogan was a 2016 Atlantic 10 All-Rooke selection and leads all returning starters with a 3.27 ERA. Wark had a tough-luck freshman campaign, but is one of SLU’s most improved players this fall. Mahoney will pull double duty as the team’s primary DH as well as a sunday starter.

#ObscureStatOfTheWeek
Since Hendrickson took the reigns in 2008, the Billikens have played five teams with an L in the institution’s name on opening day, going 4-1 against said teams.

ALAMO IRISH CLASSIC
The Billikens take on Lafayette on Friday at 3 p.m., Incarnate Word on Friday at 7 p.m. and Notre Dame on Saturday at 11 a.m. Additionally, the top two teams and the bottom two teams of the tournament will play concurrently on Sunday at 11 a.m.

THAT SABRMETRIC STUFF
LHP/DH Devin Mahoney had a solid junior campaign, and advanced metrics back up his play. He had a 7.46 Runs Created per 9 Innings, which estimates the number of runs produced based on offensive stats (invented by Bill James). Additionally, Mahoney posted an .871 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage) and a .295 Gross Production Average, which is similar to OPS, but gives more weight to OBP. He also had a Total Average of .575, which credits each base accumulated divided by total outs made. Mahoney leads all returners in each of the mentioned metrics.

KING OF THE DIAMOND
In his two-year career, Alex King has made 109 starts at shortstop. Since joining the Billikens in 2015, there have only been three games in which King has not started at shortstop (one in 2016, two in 2015)
