SETTING THE SCENE

-- Saint Louis (9-17, 4-9 A-10) heads to the Bronx, New York, to face the Fordham Rams on Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1 p.m. (St. Louis time).

-- Saturday’s game will not be televised but will be streamed free of charge on the A-10 Digital Network and the A-10 app.

-- Saturday’s radio broadcast will air on 101 ESPN. As always, Billiken Hall of Famer Bob Ramsey provides the play-by-play, while St. Louis American Sports Editor Earl Austin Jr. handles the analysis.

JESUIT BASKETBALL SPOTLIGHT

-- Saturday’s game is part of the Jesuit Basketball Spotlight.

-- The JBS is a nationwide effort to bring greater positive awareness and exposure to Jesuit education and its shared mission of academic excellence, the service of faith and the promotion of justice, through basketball games.

-- This season, men's and women's basketball teams from Jesuit colleges and universities will play against each other in more than 80 games across the country. SLU hosts Saint Joseph’s next Saturday in another JBS game.

THE OPENING TIP

-- The Billikens have won three of their last five and four of their last seven. SLU has alternated wins and losses in its last five Atlantic 10 Conference tilts.

-- SLU is coming off an 85-63 loss to Dayton that snapped a four-game Chaifetz Arena winning streak. Fordham is coming off an impressive 63-43 win at URI.

-- Saint Louis enters the weekend 11th in the A-10 standings, one game out of ninth place currently occupied by George Washington and Fordham. The Billikens are vying for a top-10 seed in the A-10 Championship in order to avoid playing a first-round game. The A-10 Championship will be held March 8-12 at PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh.

-- Junior guard Davell Roby leads the Billikens in scoring with 12.0 ppg. He is tied for 12th in the A-10 with 3.5 apg and is 10th in 3FG% (.397, 46-of-116).

-- Senior guard Mike Crawford averages 10.2 ppg. He was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 6 team and is now eligible for Academic All-America honors.

-- Senior forward Reggie Agbeko scores 9.2 ppg and posts a team-high 7.3 rpg, which is eighth in the league. He is eighth in the A-10 in FG% (.537, 95-of-175).

-- Junior guard Aaron Hines is third on the Billikens in scoring in A-10 games, averaging 10 ppg. In A-10 games only, he is 11th in the league in A/TO ratio (1.7:1), tied for 11th in steals (1.4 per game) and 13th in assists (3.5 per game).

-- SLU’s three freshmen are all averaging 5.1 ppg or higher – forward Elliott Welmer (7.7 ppg), forward Jalen Johnson (6.8 ppg) and guard Zeke Moore (5.1 ppg).

-- Saint Louis head coach Travis Ford is in his first season with the Billikens, his 20th season as a collegiate head coach.

-- Up next, the Billikens face first-place VCU on Wednesday in Richmond, Virginia.

LAST TIME OUT      

-- Saint Louis dropped an 85-63 decision to Dayton on Tuesday at Chaifetz Arena.

-- Davell Roby led the Billikens with 18 points. Zeke Moore contributed a career-high-tying 11 points, while Aaron Hines chipped in nine points and dished out a team-high seven assists (no turnovers). Elliott Welmer scored eight points.

-- SLU never led in the game and trailed by 24 at halftime. However, the Billikens outscored the Flyers 46-44 in the second half, as Roby scored 14 of his team-high 18 points in the second stanza.

-- Saint Louis, which was coming off its best shooting night in years in Saturday’s Duquesne game, got off to a slow start shooting just 25 percent from the field in the first half. The Billikens improved to shoot 51.9 percent in the second half and finished with a 38.2 percent mark for the game.

SCOUTING FORDHAM        

-- Fordham enters the game against SLU with an 11-15 overall record and a 5-8 mark in Atlantic 10 Conference play.

-- Four Rams score in double figures, led by Javontae Hawkins’ 13.7 ppg. Hawkins also leads Fordham in rebounding with 5.1 rpg. Chris Sengfelder scores 12.2 ppg and has buried a team-leading 59 3-pointers.

-- Joseph Chartouny averages 11.7 ppg and is the A-10 leader in steals (3.3 per game). He is fifth in the A-10 in assists (4.8 per game). Antwoine Anderson rounds out Fordham’s double-digit scorers with 11.4 ppg.

-- Fordham is fourth in the A-10 in scoring defense, yielding 68.8 ppg. The Rams also lead the league in steals (10.2 per game).

-- Head coach Jeff Neubauer is in his second year at Fordham. Last season, he led the Rams to an appearance in the CIT.

SERIES HISTORY

-- This is the 13th all-time meeting between the Billikens and Rams. Saint Louis leads the all-time series 10-2.

-- Both Fordham wins have come at Rose Hill Gym, including the Rams’ last win in the series on 2/7/15.

-- Last season, the Billikens prevailed 76-68 at Chaifetz Arena thanks to a game-high 21 points by Mike Crawford.
