ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis senior shortstop Alex Nickel has been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Mid-Atlantic All-Region third team in balloting conducted by the region's head softball coaches.

Nickel, who claimed All-Region first-team plaudits in 2015, becomes the second Billiken softball player to make two All-Region squads. Brianna Lore earned the distinction in 2014 and 2015.

An Atlantic 10 first-team All-Conference performer this season, Nickel led Saint Louis in batting average (.358), hits (57), runs (46), triples (six), total bases (101), slugging percentage (.635), walks (29), on-base percentage (.448), sacrifice flies (four) and stolen bases (12). She also had seven home runs, 11 doubles, 30 RBIs, 14 multi-hit games (team-high seven 3-hit games) and eight multi-RBI games. Nickel registered a career-best .962 fielding percentage.

Nickel tied for the A-10 lead in triples. She tied for third in sacrifice flies, finished fifth in total bases, slugging percentage and runs, and placed seventh in batting average. In A-10 games only, Nickel finished third in batting average (.433) and slugging percentage (.746), fourth in on-base percentage (.541) and tied for fourth in home runs (five).

Nickel owns Saint Louis career records in batting average (.347), home runs (30), on-base percentage (.460), runs (168), total bases (349), walks (131), sacrifice flies (10) and assists (529). She concluded her career second in hits (212) and slugging percentage (.571), third in doubles (35), fourth in RBIs (116) and at-bats (611), tied for sixth in starts (201), tied for seventh in triples (six), eighth in chances (896) and ninth in stolen bases (42).
