ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis sophomores Manuel De Backer and Ann Harlos have qualified for the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships west preliminary competition, the NCAA announced today.
The west preliminary competition is scheduled for May 25-27 at the University of Texas in Austin, Texas. De Backer and Harlos will look to advance to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 7-10 in Eugene, Oregon.
De Backer will compete in the men's 10,000-meter run at approximately 9:40 p.m. (CT) on Thursday at Mike A. Meyers Stadium. De Backer, the Atlantic 10 Conference runner-up in the 10,000 meters, is ranked 35th in the west region with a top 10,000-meter time of 29:29.17.
Harlos qualified for the 400-meter hurdles and opens competition on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the first round. The quarterfinals are set for Friday at 7 p.m. The A-10 runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles, Harlos is ranked 35th in the west region in the event with a top time of 59.77.
