ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis' run at the Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship came to a close Friday night after an 8-7 loss in 10 innings against Davidson.

The Billikens end the season with a 35-22 overall record. The 35 wins are tied for the third most in a single season in school history.

Davidson advances to tomorrow's championship round, where it will face VCU at noon at The Billiken Sports Center.

The Billikens began the day with a 4-2 victory that eliminated No. 2 seed Rhode Island.

Devin Mahoney provided the late inning heroics against URI, blasting a two-run homer in the seventh. James Morisano also smacked a two-run shot in the first inning that gave the Bills the early lead.

Aaron Patton earned the win on the mound after going seven innings and allowing just two runs while striking out five. The Bills' bullpen of Sean Frontzak, Brett Shimanovsky and Ryan Lefner did not allow a run in the final two innings.

Lefner earned the save, his 14th of the season, which adds to the SLU single-season record.

In the second game against Davidson, the Billikens held leads of 3-1 and 7-3, but Davidson rallied to overcome its deficit both times.

Morisano continued his hot day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two RBIs. Mahoney belted a three-run homer in the third inning that gave the Billikens a three-run cushion at the time.

But Davidson scored a run in the seventh, then tied the game at 7-7 with a three-run eighth inning. Eric Jones doubled home a run in the top of the 10th, and Davidson struck out the side in the Billikens' half of the 10th to close it out.
