PEORIA, Ill. – The Majerus SLU Crew defeated HBC 91-87 Saturday in their opening game of The Basketball Tournament (TBT) at Renaissance Coliseum in Peoria, Ill.
The SLU Crew advances to face an alumni team from Marquette Sunday afternoon at 4:15 p.m. The winner of that game advances to the “Super 16” next weekend in New York City.
Mike McCall Jr. led all scorers with 29 points thanks to 11-of-18 shooting from the field and 5-of-9 from 3-point range. Jordair Jett chipped in 20 points, while Kwamain Mitchell scored 15. Mike Crawford scored four points.
Majerus SLU Crew shot 51.8 percent from the field (29-of-56), 50 percent from 3-point range (14-of-28) and 79.2 percent from the stripe (19-of-24).
Ferrakohn Hall, who played his college ball at Memphis, scored 16 for Majerus SLU Crew, while Valparaiso alum Vashil Fernandez chipped in with seven points.
TBT is an annual 5-on-5 single-elimination basketball tournament. Anyone 18 or older can enter a team or play. The 64 teams (four regions) in TBT were selected via fan vote, as at-large selections, or through a qualifying tournament. The winning team takes home a $2 million prize.
