ST. LOUIS – Coming off a 14-win campaign and a second-place finish in the Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season race in 2016, the Saint Louis University women’s soccer team reports to preseason training camp Tuesday, Aug. 1.
The Billikens’ 26 players – four seniors, six juniors, seven sophomores and nine freshmen – assemble Tuesday for meetings. The team holds its first training session Wednesday.
SLU returns seven starters and 10 additional players from its 2016 squad that posted records of 14-4-2 overall and 7-1-2 in the A-10. Among the returning starters are senior goalkeeper Mary Niehaus, a third-team All-Region and first-team All-Conference selection; junior forward/midfielder Maddie Pokorny, a second-team All-Conference honoree; and sophomore midfielder Courtney Reimer, who made the 2016 A-10 All-Rookie team.
Junior forward Lindsay Sands (six goals) and sophomore forward Alyssa Seitzer (five goals) are Saint Louis’ top returning scorers.
The Billikens’ first game action is Friday, Aug. 11, in an exhibition against Western Kentucky at Robert R. Hermann Stadium on the SLU campus. First whistle is slated for 7 p.m.
Saint Louis hosts two games on opening weekend of the regular season. Miami (Ohio) is the opponent Friday, Aug. 18, at 7 p.m., followed by Vanderbilt Sunday, Aug. 20, at 1 p.m.
Also on the home schedule are Illinois State (Aug. 25), Kansas (Sept. 8), St. Bonaventure (Sept. 21), defending A-10 regular-season champion Saint Joseph’s (Oct. 1), defending A-10 tournament champion Dayton (Oct. 5), Richmond (Oct. 15) and Massachusetts (Oct. 19). The 2016 Billikens were 9-0 at Hermann Stadium.
