A LOOK AT THE LADY TOPPERS
•Western Kentucky was picked to finish fifth in the Conference USA preseason coaches’ poll, its highest prediction since joining the league three years ago.
•Senior goalkeeper Allison Leone, junior midfielder Nicole Roseland and sophomore forward/defender Chandler Backes were selected preseason All-Conference.
•Roseland was a 2016 first-team All-Conference choice, Leone made the second team, and Backes earned spots on the third team and All-Freshman team. Jason Neidell was tabbed C-USA Coach of the Year.
•Backes led the 2016 Lady Toppers in goals (10) and points (21). Western Kentucky returns players who tallied 25 of the team’s 31 goals a year ago.
•Leone played all but 99 minutes between the posts last year, turning in a 0.60 GAA, .853 save percentage and nine shutouts.
•The Lady Toppers were 12-6-1 overall and 7-3 in C-USA in 2016. Like the Billikens, they outperformed expectations by finishing third in the conference following an eighth-place preseason prediction.
