COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Saint Louis men finished eighth at the USA Swimming Winter National Championships, held Nov. 29-Dec. 2. The Billikens placed in the top 10 for a second consecutive year.

 

The 800 free relay team of Ryan McCoy, Isaiah Williams, Grant Streid and Collin O’Brien placed sixth in 6:38.89, the quartet’s season best by 10 seconds and the A-10’s fastest time by more than five seconds. McCoy led off with an A-10 top 200 free time of 1:36.92.

 

Also placing sixth was the 200 free relay team of O’Brien, Williams, Justin Mars and McCoy. The squad covered the distance in 1:22.72.

 

McCoy also placed in the 100 fly and the 500 free. He was 12th in the 100 fly with the A-10’s best time of 47.41, and he finished 15th in the 500 free in a school-record 4:24.18. Additionally, McCoy swam a conference-best 44.68 while qualifying for the final in his heat of the 100 free.

T.J. Halliburton finished 22nd in the 100 back. Halliburton’s time of 49.39 just missed the school record of 49.34. He also won his heat of the 200 back in 1:47.96, ranking him second in the Atlantic 10 Conference and second all-time at Saint Louis.

 

Williams qualified for the 200 fly final, swimming a 1:48.15 to just miss topping his own school record. He won his 100 fly heat with a time of 48.58.

 

The 200 medley relay team of Halliburton, Mars, McCoy and O’Brien touched first in its heat with a 1:30.57 clocking.
