ST. LOUIS -- Senior Ryan McCoy and freshman T.J. Halliburton of the Saint Louis men’s swimming and diving team today were named Atlantic 10 Conference Performer of the Week and Rookie Performer of the Week, respectively, for the week of Nov. 27-Dec. 3.
McCoy turned in an impressive performance at the USA Swimming Winter National Championships in Columbus, Ohio. He was a member of the 800 free relay team that placed sixth in 6:38.89, its season best by 10 seconds and the A-10’s fastest time by more than five seconds. McCoy led off the relay with a 200 free A-10 top time of 1:36.92, which also is an NCAA “B” cut.
McCoy placed 12th in the 100 fly (47.41) and 15th in the 500 free (4:24.18). Both times lead the A-10 and are NCAA “B” cuts, and the 500 free clocking is a school record. In addition, McCoy swam a conference-best 44.68 while qualifying for the final in his heat of the 100 free; competed on the 200 free relay team that placed sixth (1:22.72); and was a member of the 200 medley relay team that won its heat (1:30.57).
Halliburton finished 22nd in the 100 back at the USA Winter Nationals, logging a time of 49.39 to just miss the school record of 49.34. The performance ranks fourth in the A-10.
Halliburton won his heat of the 200 back in 1:47.96, ranking him second in the A-10 and second all-time at Saint Louis. He was a member of the 200 medley relay team that won its heat in 1:30.57, swimming a 23.25 50-free leg that ranks third in the A-10.
McCoy and Halliburton also competed at the Indiana State University Relay Meet, where both were on the winning 400 medley relay team (3:19.98). McCoy swam on the victorious 400 free relay (3:01.42) and 300 fly relay (2:29.09) squads, while Halliburton was a member of the winning 300 back relay trio (2:45.17).
