ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University women’s basketball will participate in the effort to heighten breast cancer awareness Sunday, Jan. 21, at the annual Billikens Pink Out Game against Atlantic 10 Conference rival Saint Joseph’s. Chaifetz Arena doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the game begins at 1 p.m.
The Billikens will wear their customary pink uniforms for the game, and all player jerseys will be auctioned off during the afternoon in the Chaifetz Arena concourse. Fans are encouraged to show their support by wearing pink.
Cancer-related organizations will host informational stations on the concourse. Balloon making, face painting and poster making will be offered, and fans will have an autograph opportunity with the Billiken softball team.
Saint Louis women’s basketball alumni will be recognized at halftime. Also at halftime, a group of cancer survivors, family members of those affected by cancer and physicians will form a symbolic ribbon around the court. After the game, the Billiken women’s basketball team will hold an autograph session.
“Women’s college basketball continues to be a very strong advocate for breast cancer awareness, and we’re looking forward to doing our part at Chaifetz Arena,” SLU head coach Lisa Stone said. “It’s very gratifying to be associated with something that has had, and will continue to have, a tremendously positive impact on so many lives.
“We greatly appreciate the overwhelming support our fans have given to this cause and this game in recent years,” Stone said. “The progress made in the fight against breast cancer is significant, but we can never become satisfied or complacent. With that in mind, we encourage all our fans to join us for what promises to be a meaningful and exciting afternoon at Chaifetz Arena.”
