SAINT LOUIS – The tell-tale sign of a new Saint Louis University Baseball season on the horizon is the annual First Pitch Dinner. Last week, the 2018 edition officially kicked-off the year for the Billikens as they head into play in mid-February.
Several key contributors to the program were on-hand for the event as St. Louis Cardinals President of Baseball Operations John Mozeliak took the stage as the keynote speaker for the evening. The former General Manager for the Cardinals and award-winning Major League Baseball executive filled the seats and talked baseball with the crowd of over 160 at Lorenzini’s inside Chaifetz Arena.
“The First Pitch Dinner was a success as far as fundraising, but equally important in engaging the community to let them know that baseball is thriving and doing as well as ever (at SLU),” said Billiken Head Coach Darin Hendrickson. “We had a 165 people in attendance and our guests were treated to (Cardinals) President John Mozeliak, Emmy-winning sportscaster play-by play-man Dan McLaughlin, along with a great silent and live auction.”
The dinner provided fans an opportunity to ask Mozeliak questions about the Cardinals in a question and answer session during the event.
“The 10th year was a special one,” said Hendrickson. “We began with John Mozeliak 10 years ago and circled back with him again in this, the 10th anniversary of the event. I want to thank our supporters for showing up in great numbers and making the night go so well.”
