DAYTON, Ohio – Saint Louis' Hasahn French scored a career-high 20 points in a 53-50 loss at Dayton on Tuesday night.
The Billikens, who let a 13-point second-half lead slip away, dip to 15-13 overall and remain in fourth place in the Atlantic 10 Conference with an 8-7 A-10 mark. Dayton improves to 13-14 overall and 7-8 in the league.
French, the reigning A-10 co-Rookie of the Week, scored a career-high 20 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field. He scored 14 of those points in the second half.
Davell Roby added 11 points, while Javon Bess had eight points and eight rebounds. Aaron Hines chipped in seven points, while Jalen Johnson matched Bess' team-high eight rebounds.
The Billikens led by nine at halftime and built a 13-point lead at 33-20 early in the second half. But the Flyers stayed close, and eventually used a 7-0 run with less than four minutes left to grab the lead.
In the waning seconds, Dayton's Jalen Crutcher hit one-of-two free throws to make it a 3-point game. SLU got a shot off at the buzzer, but Bess' contested 3-pointer was just off the mark and Dayton escaped with the win.
The Billikens are back in action Saturday night when they host George Washington at Chaifetz Arena. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
