ORLANDO, Fla. – The Saint Louis men’s tennis team advanced to the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship quarterfinals with a 4-0 first-round win over Fordham Thursday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.
The Billikens (9-9), seeded seventh, will face No. 2 seed Davidson (15-6) Friday at 11 a.m. (CT).
Saint Louis grabbed a 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point. David Ferragut and Juan Calero cruised past Lutwin de Macar and Fabian Mauritzson 6-2 at No. 1, while John Nogalski and Justin Nogalski defeated Finn Kemper and Jeremy Chung 6-4 at No 2. Kenji Yanaba and Oscar Pachon led Max Green and Allen Thornes 5-4 when their No. 3 match was halted.
In singles, Ferragut notched the Billikens’ second point with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over de Macar at No. 1, and SLU took a commanding 3-0 lead when Calero routed Mauritzson 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3. Justin Nogalski’s 7-6 (7-2), 6-3 victory over Thornes at No. 5 put the Bills into the quarterfinals.
No. 10 seed Fordham finished the season 14-7.
