• Maddie Baalman allowed only four hits and two walks, but Dayton scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning and held on for a 1-0 win over Saint Louis in an Atlantic 10 Conference Championship elimination game Friday afternoon at Fordham’s Bahoshy Field.

The fifth-seeded Billikens finished 28-29. Dayton, the No. 3 seed, takes a 31-24 record into the loser’s bracket final vs. Massachusetts Friday evening.



Dayton put two runners aboard in the first inning, but Baalman worked out of the jam.

• Kaylea Chappelle led off the third with a single, but pinch runner Kylie Hess was stranded at third.

A Dayton runner reached third in the fifth but was stranded.

The Billikens’ best scoring chance occurred in the sixth. Singles by Maria Connell and Lauren Lomax and a walk to Allie Macfarlane loaded the bases, but SLU was unable to tie or take the lead.
