The Billikens enter the final week of the regular season looking to prepare for the Atlantic 10 tournament. Saint Louis currently sits 2.5 games ahead of Fordham with three games remaining.
While Jake Garella has been the standout in 2018 in the batter’s box, Nick Reeser has put together a career year in his senior season. Reeser, the Lakewood, Calif., native hit .500 last week and put together two hits in each game of Friday’s doubleheader. The first baseman is hitting .341, second only to Garella, and leads the team with an on-base percentage of .417.
Drew Reveno is scheduled to get the nod on the hill in a split start on Tuesday. The junior has become one of the top Sunday starters in Division I in 2018. A rain-out on Saturday at St. Bonaventure put the junior in line to make a short start on Tuesday as the Billikens will use multiple pitchers.
Saint Louis has won eight of its last 10 games heading into play on Tuesday. On the whole in midweek action, however, the Billikens are 5-4 on the year.
Saint Louis enters Tuesday’s contest 1-0 on the year against teams in the Missouri Valley Conference. The lone game came against Bradley on April 11 in a thrilling 3-2 win.
Saint Louis completed its fifth sweep over an Atlantic 10 opponent over the weekend with a pair of wins over St. Bonaventure. Saturday’s single game was rained-out. With the wins, the Billikens completed the regular season 11-0 in A-10 road contests.
SCOUTING THE SALUKIS
Southern Illinois enters play on Tuesday on a five-game losing streak after dropping three-straight to conference foe Missouri State over the weekend. The Salukis are jockeying for position in next week’s Missouri Valley Conference tournament as they are tied for fourth with Indiana State as of Tuesday. They will complete their 2018 regular season schedule with a home series this weekend against Bradley.
Southern Illinois features three hitters in the lineup hitting over .300 (Connor Kopach, .335; Logan Blackfan, .329; Alex Lyon, .326). The Salukis are hitting .269 as a team.
Senior Jamison Steege will get the ball for the Salukis, and similar to Reveno, is ordinarily a weekend starter. Steege will step out of his Saturday starter role for an abbreviated start on Tuesday.
