ST. LOUIS – The Kevin Kalish era at Saint Louis University officially gets underway Wednesday, as the Billikens' men's soccer team begins preseason camp to prepare for the 2018 campaign.
SLU returns 19 players from last year's squad, which went 7-9-1 overall and 4-4 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Billikens' roster features 11 new faces.
Lennart Hein, an A-10 first-team All-Conference pick last season, led SLU in scoring in 2017 with five goals. Leo Novaes was second to Hein in total points (nine) and led the Billikens in assists with five.
Kalish, who was hired at SLU in January, is embarking on his seventh season as a collegiate head coach. He previously served six seasons as head coach at SIU Edwardsville, posting a 49-46-16 record there from 2008-13.
Saint Louis plays its first of three exhibition tilts this Sunday (Aug. 12) when it travels to Kentucky to face the Wildcats in a 2 pm. (CT) kickoff. SLU hosts Lipscomb Saturday, Aug. 18, at 5 p.m. and Wash. U. on Sunday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. to conclude exhibition play.
The regular season opener is slated for Friday, Aug. 24, at Notre Dame. The home opener is the following Sunday, Aug. 26, at 5 p.m. against Memphis at Hermann Stadium.
