NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Saint Louis men's and women's cross country squads turned in strong performances at the National Catholic Invitational at the University of Notre Dame on Friday.

The women's team turned in a third-place finish in the event, while the men posted a sixth-place finish.

It was officially the season opener for the men's team, which started but did not finish the Forest Park XC Festival due to inclement weather.

Courtney Link led the women's team with a 16th-place finish in the 5K. She crossed the line in 18:16.61. On the men's side, Ben Naeger crossed the line first for the Billikens with a five-mile time of  26:05.04. That was good for 29th overall.

The Billikens return to action in two weeks when they go back to Notre Dame to partake in the Joe Piane Invitational on Friday, Sept. 28.
