Billiken swimmers finished first overall on the men’s side and runner-up on the women’s in the Indiana State University Relay Meet held December 1 at Vigo Schools Aquatic Center. Saint Louis placed in the top-two in 14 of 24 events.

The men’s relay teams placed first in eight of the events. Janssen Gamilla, Mitchell Ellis and Scott Street of the 300 fly team finished in 2:36.93. The 300 back team of Matt Terrian, Cal Higgins and Nick Soltys had a time of 2:37.98. Luke Van Gorp, Ellis and Josh Southren completed the 300 breast in 3:05.34. The 500 free team of Yousef Eldakak, Christian L’Italien, Ben Martinez and Jason Ruka finished in 4:29.48. The 800 free team with Street, Peter Hurst, Martinez and Soltys won with a 7:18.88 time. Street, Tyler Guist and Hurst of the 1500 free team completed the event in 14:41.20. The 400 medley team of Terrian, Van Gorp, Gamilla and Guist finished in 3:33.20. Gamilla, Guist, Soltys, and Van Gorp had a time of 3:43.97 in the 400 individual medley.

Runner-up finishes for the Billiken men include Higgins, Ellis, Street and Ross Adkins in the 400 medley (3:40.59); Terrian, Southren, Gamilla and Van Gorp in the 200 free (1:27.41) and Soltys, Terrian, Higgins and L’Italien in the 400 free (3:16.47).

The 400 medley women’s relay team of Emily Smith, Emily Kishish, Savannah Nichols and Olivia Tate won the event in 4:03.53.

Billiken women had two runner-up finishes at the weekend’s relay meet. The 300 back team of Katie Schmude, Smith and Alyzza Cruz finished in 2:57.84. Lindsey Turner, Olivia Wanasek and Claire Koh completed the 1500 free in 16:10.80.

Saint Louis swimmers will compete next on January 11 at Western Illinois University.
