Saint Louis head baseball Darin Hendrickson has announced changes to the Billikens' coaching staff.
Will Schierholz has been promoted from volunteer assistant coach to assistant coach. “He will continue his work with pitchers and help out on the recruiting side of things,” Hendrickson said.
Evan Pratte will join the staff as the team’s recruiting coordinator and hitting coach.
Pratte, a former 13 round draft pick of the Detroit Tigers, played in the minor leagues from 1991-95. He played three seasons at the AA level and earned a spot on the 1992 South Atlantic League All-Star Team.
Since 1998, Pratte has been at the University of Missouri serving as both an assistant baseball coach (1998-2010) and as the director of baseball operations (2010-18).
“Evan has a great resume of success as a player at Missouri State and as a long-time assistant at the University of Missouri,” Hendrickson said. “He has served a variety of roles at Mizzou and has tremendous experience having been a part of nine NCAA Regionals and a Super Regional as a coach.”
Joe Simokaitis rounds out the staff as the program’s volunteer coach.
Simokaitis played five years of professional baseball with the Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners organizations. He advanced through four levels of the minor league system in three years, including the top tier, AAA, in 2007-08.
Playing his collegiate ball at the University of Nebraska, Simokaitis was a four year starter and three year captain who participated in the 2002 and 2005 College World Series.
“Joe is a former All-Big 12 infielder, so he will help our hitters and infield position players immensely,” Hendrickson stated.
Former Saint Louis coaches Will Bradley (2007-19) and Joey Hawkins (2018-19) have been hired to professional baseball. Bradley will be joining the Angels organization as a minor league hitting coach, and Hawkins will be in the Gulf Coast League as a hitting coach with the Cardinals.
To close things out, Hendrickson said, “We’re excited about our coaching staff, and we can’t wait for the season to get underway next month.”
The season begins on Friday, February 15, against Miami Ohio in Hoover, Ala.
