Billiken Baseball Volunteer Assistant Coach Joe Simokaitis joined the Saint Louis staff in January of the 2019 season. He is a former All Big 12 infielder from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and he will play a tremendous role for the hitters and infield position players.

Simokaitis graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2011, earning a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree in Communication Studies. While in Lincoln, he was a four year starter and three year captain who participated in the 2002 and 2005 College World Series. As a student-athlete, Simokaitis was selected to present to large groups about the day to day field operations of the Nebraska Cornhusker baseball program.

The former St. Mary's high school (St. Louis) standout has five years of professional baseball experience with the Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners organizations. He was the starting shortstop from 2005-08 for Peoria, Daytona, Tennessee and the Iowa Cubs. Simokaitis advanced through four levels of the minor league system in three years. In 2007-08, he advanced to AAA and played in the Arizona Fall League.

Simokaitis has been a head coach for St. Mary's high school (2012-14) and an associate head coach at St. Louis CC at Meramec (2017-18).
